Once you have applied and been admitted to the college, there are a few steps you need to complete in order to become enrolled as a student at Normandale. We recommend you complete these steps as early as possible. The number of steps you will need to complete will vary depending on your student type.

Follow These Steps:

Step 1) Complete the Placement Tests

Please thoroughly read our Placement Testing page to complete or waive placement tests.

Step 2) Register for Advising & Registration

Register for Advising & Registration

Attend an Advising and Registration session

New students will register for the first time at an Advising & Registration (A&R) session.  During your A&R session you will receive advice on how to achieve academic success at the College. Advisors and Counselors are also available to help you select an appropriate course schedule based on your interest, abilities and goals.

It is important that you arrive on time and bring an acceptable form of photo identification for check-in.   You will receive a confirmation email regarding your reservation with parking and event location details.  This email will also include information and a link to view an "online" orientation prior to attending your A&R session.

Transfer students should click here for information on a "Live Webinar" Advising Session.

Step 3) Activate Your Star ID

You will need to activate your Star ID to access your campus information and other campus services.

  • If you know your Student ID AND Social Security Number, click on the "Tech ID (Student ID)" link, then follow the prompts to activate your StarID.

  • If you did not fill out your social security number on your application for Normandale, you will have to activate your StarID by selecting "Personal Email Address" and use the email you likely provided on your Normandale application. If you use the personal email option, a verification code will be sent to that email address. Return to the StarID site and select the 'I have a verification code' option, entering the code sent to your email.

  • If your StarID is already activated, you may only need to reset your password.

  • Additional step-by-step instructions for activating your StarID can be found by clicking the button above.

Step 4) Your Student Email Account

Access Your Email

The College has provided an email account to you. Your Normandale email is THE primary means of communication. Important notices and information about registration, tuition payments, financial aid, and much more is sent to this address on a regular basis.

You will need your StarID and Password  (see Step 3) to access your student email account for the first time.

Step 5) Apply for Financial Aid

Complete FAFSA

All students are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at each year to establish eligibility for federal and state grants, loans and work study.

Complete information on how to apply for financial aid is available on the Financial Aid and Scholarship website.

If the college has not received your FAFSA results by the payment deadline date, you will need to make other arrangements for payment of tuition, fees and books. Your options include cash, credit card or the Nelnet Payment Plan. Your expenses may be reimbursed with the receipt of financial aid later in the term.

Step 6) Pay Your Tuition and Fees

Payment Options

The tuition due date is typically one month prior to the start of the semester. After this date, tuition is due within a certain number of days of any registration. Normandale does not mail tuition invoices.

Invoice statements and payment details are found online at the Normandale Payments and Billings Office website.

Payment can be made in person with cash, check, or credit card at the Payments and Billings Office; online with a credit card by logging into e-services using your StarID and password; or through a Nelnet Payment Plan.

You may be dropped from classes if you have not made payment in full or payment arrangements by the established payment deadline.
