As part of the recently completed Legislative session, Normandale Community College received funding to move forward with the $12.6 million first phase of a College Services Renovation Project and a $5.4 million Tunnel and Courtyard Restoration Project.
The first phase of the College Services Renovation Project will help create an updated Integrated Student Services "Hub" that centralizes student service locations and will improve the overall service experience for students. It will also provide modernized classrooms and small group spaces for projects and study on the first floor of the building.
"The College Services Renovation Project is important to helping Normandale continue to provide a quality student experience," said Normandale Community College President Joyce Ester. "The first experiences students have are crucial to their overall success, and our College Services area is the front door to the college. We want to ensure our first interaction with students is a modern learning environment that emphasizes the resources and support we provide for student success."
The Tunnel and Courtyard Restoration Project is funded with Higher Education Asset Preservation and Renewal (HEAPR) funds. It will correct multiple water intrusion problems created by faulty drainage systems in the college's central courtyard and deteriorating tunnel walls along its perimeter.
"One of our biggest challenges is taking care of the buildings we already have," said Patrick Buhl, Normandale Associate Vice President of Operations, Facilities Management. "This is why Asset Preservation was an important priority. Funds to maintain and modernize the aging infrastructure at Normandale will ensure that our students can have a quality learning environment and that our campuses are operating efficiently."
Normandale is reconstructing Parking Lots 1& 2 (off 98th Street) this summer. The college will begin working on a Tunnel and Courtyard Restoration Project in fall 2018. Construction for the first phase of the College Services Renovation will begin in spring 2019.
